Fencing

The new fencing group of the Los Angeles Turners
was founded in September 2002

The idea of our - now honorary -  President Dennis F. Fredricks, (right in the photo with  with the multiple world champion and two time Olympic silver medalist (1972 and 1980), Pal Gerevich (left), whom he met in March 2006 at the Vienna Sport Club, where he was training young fencers) to revive fencing in the tradition of the Los Angeles Turners, was a resounding success.  With the new group the athletics return to the Turners who had focused very successfully on the other pillar of the Turners principles, to preserve German, Austrian and Swiss culture in the US. Directed by Inge Crongeyer and musically by Ollie Rasbury, the Turner Singers bring the German-language culture to their audience. The fencing group gives our members the opportunity to take advantage of the athletic component of the Los Angeles Turners.  Interested in fencing with the Los AngelesClick here for basic info about fencing Turners?  Call Dennis F. Los Angeles Turners fencers in 1935

Our Historian Carl Schaefer surprised us with this picture from 1935. The young Turners crossing their sabers almost 70 years ago are obviously enjoying it as much as our newly founded fencing group which is already in full action. Carl himself used to be a fencer - the 2nd one in the left row. Also Erwin Tuppan, 1st in the right row.
